Fishing



Great Barrier Island is surrounded by a rich and diverse marine habitat. It is estimated that at least 70 species of fish inhabit the subtidal reefs along it’s north eastern coastline.
Dolphins are often seen from shore and at times whales, rays and turtles as well. Crays, scallops and snapper are a mainstay of Barrier cuisine while kahawai, hapuku, john dory, kingfish and tuna found in these waters.
