Location
At the southern end of Great Barrier Island, Tipi and Bob’s Waterfront Lodge is situated in Puriri Bay on the eastern shore of Tryphena harbour from which it commands unobstructed views across the entire harbour and out to the northern tip of the Cormandel. Just off the Lodge’s boat ramp Dolphins come close inshore to the delight of onlookers and photographers. A five minute walk from there brings one to the Stonewall Store, Outpost & gift shop and Wild Rose Cafe. Continue along the shade dappled road a couple of minutes further to the beach at Gooseberry Flat for good swimming and sunbathing.
Great Barrier Island lies in the pristine waters of the Hauraki Gulf about 90km northeast of Auckland, New Zealand. Known to Maori as Aotea (White Cloud), the Island is the largest of New Zealand’s northern offshore islands, covering about 285 km.sq.
Isolated and unspoilt, the Island offers a superb natural landscape, rare native animals and plants and many well-preserved historic sites.
